The sound is affected by many factors, such as geometry of the shells, the mark of steel and even width of the sound zone.
If you like an instrument with a textured coating - of course, micro thickness of coating will add a little "dryness" to drum vibrations  while a clean surface will be more ringing. But this is a very insignificant difference and should not affect your choice. The sound meets our high standards - you can choose the color and style that suits you best. Sound quality comes first.

The tongue drum is definitely durable than handpan, as it is made of thicker steel and has cuts. It is also stronger than most popular musical instruments, as it is made of steel and is easy to care.
But it is still worth remember that it is a musical instrument, we recommend follow 5 simple rules:
1. Do not wet
2. Do not drop
3. Protect from direct sunlight (do not overheat)
4. Control the force when hitting the note
5. Treat like any other musical instrument
It will help your drum live longer!

Handpan is played with hands for a softer sound, it is easy because it made of thin steel.
Regarding tongue drum - it can be played with hands and sticks both (sticks are included), but for beginners it may take some time to understand the technique of hands playing, this is a special blow, not just a touch. So, for a start you can use sticks and bit by bit move on to playing with hands. With regular practice it will not take you more than a week.
