1. I’m a beginner. Can I play on a Steel Tongue Drum?

Yes! It's an intuitive instrument suitable for everyone – even children. You don’t need any musical training or knowledge of notes. Thanks to a wide selection of harmonic scales, you can easily find one that resonates with you.

Therapy Tip: 15–20 minutes of daily playing boosts energy, relieves stress, and helps with relaxation.

2. Can beginners play with hands?

Steel Tongue Drums can be played with both hands and mallets (mallets are included). Playing with hands requires a special technique, not just tapping – but with a week of practice, it becomes natural. Start with mallets and progress to hands over time.

3. What’s the difference between a Tongue Drum and a Handpan?

Handpans are typically more expensive – high-quality handpans often cost $1000 or more due to their complex handcrafting and tuning process. They are louder, more resonant, and produce harmonics and overtones that give them a rich, almost ethereal sound.

Handpan: Louder, more resonant, and complex. Produces harmonics and overtones with a rich, ambient tone.

In contrast, tongue drums are more affordable and have a low entry threshold, making them ideal for beginners. Our tongue drums are made from the same steel as handpans, and the sound quality can come remarkably close! We offer one of the best quality choices on the market.

Advantages of Tongue Drums: Durable, compact, and cost-effective – while still offering beautiful, meditative tones.

4. Does the color affect the sound?

Sound quality is primarily influenced by the steel, shape, and tuning. While coating thickness may slightly change the tone (e.g., textured coatings sound drier), it’s minimal. All NovaDrums meet high sound standards – choose the color and style you love most!

5. What’s the difference between drum sizes?

Larger drums offer deeper tones, but also weigh more. We offer 28cm, 38cm, and 48cm sizes – all in stock. Each has its own benefits depending on your needs. Portable cases make travel easy. Choose the size that fits your preferences and lifestyle best.

6. How to choose the right scale?

Tip: Trust your intuition and feelings when listening to sound samples (available on product pages). Don’t overthink – follow your heart. Our most popular beginner scale: D Celtic Minor

9. How do I care for my Tongue Drum?

Tongue drums are durable thanks to thick steel and precision cuts. But like any instrument, care matters. Follow these 5 tips:

  • Do not get it wet
  • Don’t drop it
  • Avoid direct sunlight/heat
  • Play gently – don’t hit too hard
  • Treat it with respect as a musical instrument
  • If it is a ‘Gold’ drum, we recommend wiping it down 1-2 times a month with WD-40

10. I saw similar drums cheaper – what's the difference?

Be cautious – many fakes look similar but lack quality tuning, craftsmanship, and materials. A true tongue drum requires expert tuning and high-grade steel. The disappointment from poor quality lasts longer than the joy of a cheap price.

11. Are NovaDrums exclusive and handcrafted?

Yes! We craft only 30 – 40 drums per month, ensuring each is unique and made with care. Buying from us means supporting craftsmanship and tradition – every NovaDrum is a piece of musical art.

12. Can I earn with NovaDrum? (Cooperation)

Absolutely! We offer 3 cooperation models. Anyone can start earning from day one. If you love our instruments and culture, contact us for details.
